Robert Toler

Quarterbacks/Pass Coordinator

Coach Toler is returning for his second season here at Poly on the Varsity staff. Last year, Toler started his coaching career with the freshman football team coaching the quarterback position. Midway through the season, Toler was added to the Varsity staff to assist with developing the quarterback position. Toler brings knowledge from the his experiences through his High School and College mentors such as Don Norford, Marv Marinavich, Homer Smith, Rick Neuheisel, Jon Embree, Kennedy Pola, and EJ Doc Kries.

In 1999, Coach Toler received his Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Colorado with an emphasis in Ethnic Studies. There he was a four year letterman playing wide receiver for the Buffaloes. Toler showed promise but, during his senior year he suffered a career ending knee injury that put Toler on the sidelines for good. Upon returning to California, Toler has been working in the motion picture industry on major studio lots in the Los Angeles County. Last year Toler decided to walk out of the profession and follow his aspirations of working with athletes here at Long Beach Poly and pursue his own business endeavors.

Toler was born and raised in Long Beach California and he grew up playing football in the Long Beach Poly Pop Warner youth program. As High School approached it was an easy decision that Toler was going to be a Jackrabbit. Toler attended Poly from 1991-1995 and played football, baseball, and basketball and was a member of the CIC Academic program. He excelled in all sports at the Varsity level but his passion was football. Toler was a three year starter for the Rabbits under Offensive Coordinator Thomas Whitting. For those three years Toler posted a record of 30-6. Throwing for 5,197 yards, 42 touchdown passes, 11 rushing touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. Toler received honors as a sophomore as the Most Outstanding Offensive Player while his junior and senior year, Toler was a Captain and was the recipient of the Offensive M.V.P. He was also first team All-South Coast and All-Moore League as a sophomore, junior, and senior, and was selected as the league’s Most Valuable Player his junior year. Toler earned a Century Club Award, Who’s Who All-American honors as a senior, he was also selected to the Blue Chip All-West Region team, the SuperPrep All-Far West team, and the High School Dream Team.
